The rank tracker follows the searches that matter to you and shows where your site ranks for each one, day by day. It uses Google's own numbers from Search Console, so there's no scraping, no extra service and no per-keyword fee.

RankKit SEO stores the daily positions in your WordPress database. Search Console only keeps 16 months of data, but your rank history in RankKit SEO keeps growing for as long as you track a keyword.

Before you start

Connect Google and choose a Search Console property. Then go to RankKit SEO → Analytics → Rank tracker.

Add keywords

  1. In the Tracked keywords card, type keywords into Add keywords, one per line.
  2. Click Track.

RankKit SEO fills in the last 90 days of history straight away and then checks the keywords every day. You can track up to 100 keywords.

Not sure what to track? Click Suggest from Search Console to see the top queries your site already gets clicks for that you aren't tracking yet. Hover a suggestion to see its clicks and position, and click it to start tracking.

Adding and removing keywords is for administrators. Other users with the Analytics permission can view the report.

Note A keyword is matched to the exact search query in Search Console (not case-sensitive). "mango pickle recipe" and "mango pickle recipes" are different queries. Track the variants you care about, or use Suggest from Search Console to pick the exact wording people use.

The table lists every tracked keyword:

Column Meaning
Keyword The tracked search.
Position The average Google position on the latest day with data. "not ranking" means no impressions in the period.
7 days / 28 days How many places the keyword moved over the last 7 or 28 days.
Best The best daily position in the selected period.
Clicks (28d) / Impr. (28d) Clicks and impressions for this exact query over the last 28 days with data.
Trend A small chart of the position.

Above the table:

  • Best movers, last 7 days and Worst movers, last 7 days show the biggest gains and drops.
  • Position history charts one keyword. Click a keyword in the table to chart it, and choose 28 days, 90 days, 180 days or 12 months.

The trash icon next to a keyword (Stop tracking) removes it from the list.

How the data is updated

  • Positions are Google's daily average position from Search Console. They're updated once a day by a scheduled task while at least one keyword is tracked and Google is connected.
  • Search Console data arrives about two days late, so the latest position is usually from two days ago.
  • Click Update now to pull the latest days immediately. The card shows when it was last updated.
  • Changes to the keyword list are recorded in the Change Log, so a removed keyword can be restored there.

The scheduled update uses WP-Cron, which runs when your site gets visits. On a site with very little traffic, updates may run late.

With other RankKit SEO features

  • AI insights include your rank tracker movers when it summarizes the period.
  • The Pro email report can include rank tracker movers.
  • AI agents can read positions with the rank_tracker_report MCP tool.

FAQ

Why does the position differ from what I see when I search Google?

Search Console reports an average over everyone who saw your page that day, across locations and devices. A single search from your browser is personalized and shows one moment. The average is the more reliable number for spotting trends.

Why does a keyword show "not ranking"?

Your site had no impressions for that exact query in the period. Either the page ranks too low to be seen, or people phrase the search differently. Check the wording with Suggest from Search Console.

Can I track keywords for a competitor's site?

No. Search Console only reports on properties you have access to, so the rank tracker shows your own site's positions.
