The Change Log: history and undo
Every SEO change in RankKit SEO is logged with before and after values and who made it. Approve agent edits, and revert one change or a whole batch.

The Change Log is RankKit SEO's history of every SEO change on your site. Each entry shows what changed, the value before and after, who or what made the change, and when. Any applied change can be reverted with one click, and changes proposed by AI agents wait here for your approval.
This is what makes it safe to let AI, bulk tools and imports touch your SEO: nothing changes without a record, and nothing is permanent.
What gets logged
Every SEO write in RankKit SEO goes through the same path, so all of these are logged:
- Saves in the RankKit SEO panel of the block editor, the Classic Editor box and Elementor
- The bulk SEO editor and bulk AI
- AI suggestions you apply
- Imports from other SEO plugins, RankKit SEO export files and backup restores
- Automatic redirects when a slug changes
- One-click audit fixes and setting changes
- AI agent tool calls over MCP and the WordPress Abilities API
Entries cover SEO fields on posts and terms, image alt text, settings, redirects, backup restores and post content edits (link fixes from the broken link checker, inserted FAQ blocks). With RankKit SEO Pro, they also cover locations, product identifiers and schema templates.
Open the Change Log
Go to RankKit SEO → Change Log in the WordPress sidebar, or click the Change Log icon (a clock) on the right of the RankKit SEO header. When agent changes are waiting for approval, the menu item and the icon show a red count, and administrators also see "SEO: N changes to review" in the admin bar.
Filter the list with the tabs:
| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| Needs approval | Changes proposed by AI agents that are waiting for you. Opens by default when there are any. |
| Applied | Changes that are live. |
| Reverted | Changes you undid. |
| Rejected | Proposed changes you turned down. |
| All | Everything. |
Each entry shows a source badge (AI agent, Ability, AI, Editor, Bulk edit, Import or Automatic), the field and the item it was changed on (linked to its edit screen), the agent or user who made it, the time, the Before and After values, and the note left with the change, if any.
Approve or reject agent changes
When Agents' changes need my approval is on in RankKit SEO → AI Agents (the default), every edit an agent makes is stored as a proposal instead of going live. See Approval mode, dry runs and undo.
- Open the Needs approval tab.
- Review the Before and After values.
- Click Approve to apply the change ("Approved and applied") or Reject to discard it.
When one agent call proposed several changes, they form a batch: "N changes from
Site-wide changes from agents (settings, modules, robots.txt, redirects, verification codes, backups and reverting site-wide changes) always wait here, even when Agents' changes need my approval is off. Each shows as Site-wide request from an AI agent, with what Runs when you approve. Approving runs it as you, and what it changes is logged as normal entries you can revert. The request entry itself has no Revert button.
Changes you make yourself in the editor, the bulk editor or Tools apply straight away. Approval only applies to AI agents.
Revert a change
- Find the change on the Applied tab.
- Click Revert. The old value is written back and the entry is marked as reverted.
To undo everything from one action at once (a bulk AI run, an import, an agent's bulk edit), click Revert whole batch on any entry of the batch.
If the same field changed again after the entry you want to revert, Revert stops with "This field changed again after this edit. Revert the newer change first, or force it." Revert the newer change first, then this one. This protects edits made later.
Important Revert whole batch reverts every applied change in the batch, newest first, even when a field changed again since. Check the batch before you use it on old changes.
Reverting a backup restore puts back the automatic backup RankKit SEO took just before the restore.
Who can see and approve changes
- Anyone who can edit posts can open the Change Log. Users without administrator rights or the Change Log approval permission only see changes to posts, media and terms they can edit, not settings or redirects.
- Approving, rejecting and reverting needs the Change Log approval permission, which only administrators have by default. Change it in the Role manager.
How long changes are kept
Applied, reverted and rejected changes older than 180 days are deleted by a daily cleanup. Changes waiting for approval are kept until you approve or reject them. For a permanent copy of your SEO data, use backups.
AI agents and the Change Log
Connected agents can read the history and undo their own work with the list_changes, get_change, list_pending_changes, revert_change and withdraw_change tools. withdraw_change lets an agent take back a proposal that is still waiting for approval.
FAQ
Can I turn off logging?
No. The log is how undo works, so every SEO change is recorded. Old entries are cleaned up after 180 days.
Does the Change Log record changes to post content?
Only the content edits RankKit SEO itself makes, such as broken link fixes and inserted FAQ blocks. Your normal writing in the editor is tracked by WordPress revisions, not the Change Log.
I reverted an import by mistake. Can I get it back?
The reverted entries stay in the log but cannot be re-applied from there. Run the import again from RankKit SEO → Tools. If you took a manual backup after the import, restoring it also brings the imported data back.
What happens to the Change Log when I uninstall RankKit SEO?
It is deleted with the rest of RankKit SEO's tables. See Deactivate or uninstall RankKit SEO.
