You don't have to re-type your SEO when you move to RankKit SEO. The importer reads the data your old SEO plugin saved on each post, page and term, copies it into RankKit SEO's fields and converts title variables to RankKit SEO's format.
It's safe to try: RankKit SEO takes a backup before every import, it never changes the old plugin's data, and the whole import is one batch in the Change Log that you can revert in one click.
Supported plugins
RankKit SEO looks for data from Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress, The SEO Framework, Slim SEO, Squirrly SEO and Redirection. The old plugin doesn't need to be active: RankKit SEO finds its saved data either way.
Run the import
- Go to RankKit SEO → Tools and find Import from another SEO plugin. Each plugin with data on your site is listed with the number of posts and redirects found, and marked active if it's still running.
- Leave Overwrite SEO data already set in RankKit SEO off for a first import. Only empty RankKit SEO fields are filled, so nothing you already set in RankKit SEO is replaced.
- Turn on Deactivate the old plugin after the import if you're ready to switch. Running two SEO plugins prints duplicate titles and meta tags.
- Click Import next to the plugin.
The import runs in batches of 100 posts and shows its progress. When it's done you see Import complete with the number of posts, fields and redirects imported.
If nothing is listed, you see No SEO plugin data found: none of the supported plugins left data on this site.
Tip Not ready to switch yet? Leave the old plugin active, run the import, and compare a few pages. The old plugin can stay active until you're happy. Just don't leave both running on a live site for long.
What gets imported from each plugin
| Plugin | Posts and pages | Categories and tags | Redirects |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yoast SEO | Title, description, focus keyword, noindex, nofollow, canonical, Open Graph title, description and image, primary category, cornerstone | Title, description, noindex | Yoast SEO Premium redirects |
| Rank Math | Title, description, focus keyword, noindex and nofollow, canonical, Facebook title, description and image, primary category, pillar content (as cornerstone) | Title, description | Active redirections |
| All in One SEO | Title, description, focus keyphrase, noindex, nofollow, canonical, Open Graph title and description, custom Open Graph image, pillar content (as cornerstone) | None | None |
| SEOPress | Title, description, target keyword, noindex, nofollow, canonical, Facebook title, description and image, primary category | Title, description | None |
| The SEO Framework | Title, description, noindex, nofollow, canonical, Open Graph title and description, social image | None | None |
| Slim SEO | Title, description, canonical, Facebook image, noindex | None | None |
| Squirrly SEO | Title, description, keywords (up to 5), canonical, Open Graph title, description and image, focus page (as cornerstone), primary category, noindex, nofollow | Yes | Squirrly redirects |
| Redirection | None | None | Enabled URL redirects |
Title variables such as Yoast's %%title%% or Rank Math's %sitetitle% are converted to RankKit SEO variables.
Settings from Squirrly SEO
Squirrly SEO is the only source whose site-wide settings are imported too: verification codes, X and Facebook accounts, the default Open Graph image, your organization name and logo, social profiles, the custom home page title and description, and the title separator.
For every other plugin, set your site-wide settings in RankKit SEO yourself after the import. Check Settings → General (separator, home page title and description), Settings → Content types (title templates), Settings → Social, Settings → Identity and Settings → Webmaster tools.
Redirects and RankKit SEO Pro
The free plugin imports exact-match redirects. Prefix ("starts with") and regular-expression redirects from Rank Math and Redirection need RankKit SEO Pro and are skipped on the free plan. See Advanced redirects.
After the import
- Open a few important pages in the block editor, click the RankKit SEO button in the toolbar (RankKit SEO panel) and check the SEO title, description and focus keyword.
- Review your settings in RankKit SEO → Settings, as described above.
- If the old plugin is still active, deactivate it in Plugins, or click Deactivate in the Other SEO plugins are running alongside RankKit SEO warning. See Running RankKit SEO alongside another SEO plugin.
- Run the site audit from RankKit SEO → Dashboard to catch anything missing.
Undo an import
Go to RankKit SEO → Change Log. The import is one batch. Click Revert whole batch to put every field back as it was. You can also restore the automatic backup taken before the import from RankKit SEO → Tools → Backups. It's labelled Before importing from another SEO plugin.
Moving between two RankKit SEO sites
To copy RankKit SEO settings, SEO fields and redirects from one RankKit SEO site to another, use Export & import in RankKit SEO → Tools instead. See Backups, export and import.
FAQ
Will the import change or delete my old plugin's data?
No. RankKit SEO only reads the old plugin's data. If you go back to that plugin, its data is still there.
Can I run the import more than once?
Yes. With Overwrite SEO data already set in RankKit SEO off, a second run only fills fields that are still empty. Turn it on if you want the old plugin's values to replace what's in RankKit SEO.
Should I keep the old plugin installed?
Deactivate it once you've checked the import. Two active SEO plugins print duplicate titles and meta tags. See Running RankKit SEO alongside another SEO plugin.
My regex redirects didn't come across. Why?
On the free plan only exact-match redirects are imported. Prefix and regex redirects need RankKit SEO Pro.
