Advanced post settings: redirect, hide from search and archives, robots
Redirect a single post, hide it from your site's own search results or archive pages, and mark pillar content from the block editor's Advanced section.
On this page
The Advanced section of the RankKit SEO panel holds the settings you change for one post at a time: where it redirects, whether it shows up in your site's own search and archive pages, whether it is pillar content, and its robots meta tag. This guide covers the redirect, visibility and pillar content options. The canonical URL and the Robots Meta Override are covered in Noindex, nofollow and canonical URLs.
To open it, click the RankKit SEO button in the block editor toolbar and choose Advanced in the menu on the left (Edit SEO in the block editor).
Redirect this post
Send visitors and search engines who open this post to another address, for example when the post has been replaced by a newer one.
- Save the post first. Until it is saved, the field shows "Save the post first."
- In Redirect this post to, enter the full new address, for example
https://example.com/replacement-page. - Click Save redirect. You see "Redirect saved." and the active rule below the field.
RankKit SEO creates a 301 (permanent) redirect from this post's path in Redirects, where you can edit it later with Open Redirects. The redirect works straight away; you don't need to save the post again.
To remove it, clear the field and click Remove.
The field only appears when the Redirects module is on and your role can manage redirects.
Note A redirected post stays published in WordPress, but visitors can no longer read it at its own address: they land on the new one.
Hide from this site's search results
Turn on Hide from this site's search results to leave the post out of the results when visitors search your site. The post stays published and reachable at its own address.
This only affects your site's own search. Search engines such as Google are not affected; to keep the post out of them, use No index in the Robots Meta Override.
Hide from archive pages
Turn on Hide from archive pages to keep the post off the blog home and off category, tag, author, date and other taxonomy listings. Use it for posts that should be reachable by link but should not appear in your post lists, such as a landing page written as a post.
Like the search option, this controls your site only, not search engines. It applies to the main listing of those pages; other blocks or widgets that list posts can still show it.
Pillar content
Turn on This post is Pillar Content to mark your most important (cornerstone) content. Internal link suggestions favour pillar content when they rank posts to link to.
Robots meta and canonical URL
The same section has the Canonical URL field and the Robots Meta Override toggle with No index, No follow, No archive, No snippet and No image index. See Noindex, nofollow and canonical URLs.
FAQ
What is the difference between hiding a post from search results and noindex?
Hide from this site's search results only removes the post from your own site's search box. No index asks Google and other search engines to leave the page out of their results. Use one, the other or both.
I don't see Redirect this post to.
The Redirects module is off, or your role cannot manage redirects. An administrator can turn the module on in the Modules card on the Dashboard and give your role access in the Role manager.
Are these options in the Classic Editor and Elementor?
No. The Classic Editor box and the Elementor panel keep their own tabs, with noindex, nofollow, canonical URL and cornerstone. Redirect, hide and the full robots override are in the block editor panel.
