WooCommerce SEO

RankKit SEO builds rich Product schema from WooCommerce, adds product title variables, keeps cart and checkout unindexed, and cleans up product sitemaps.

When WooCommerce is active, RankKit SEO reads your store data and turns it into the things search engines need from a shop: complete Product schema for rich results with price, stock and stars, sensible titles and descriptions for product pages, and an index without cart and account pages.

All of this works on its own once WooCommerce is active. Settings are on RankKit SEO → Settings → WooCommerce, a tab that only appears when WooCommerce is active.

Product schema

"Product schema is built from WooCommerce: price, sale end date, stock status, SKU, GTIN, brand, images, star rating and reviews. WooCommerce's own duplicate product schema is turned off."

Each product page gets a Product node in RankKit SEO's schema graph, with an Offer for the price (the lowest price for a variable product), availability from the stock status, and ratings and reviews when the product has them. WooCommerce prints its own product schema too; RankKit SEO removes that copy so Google sees one product, not two.

Where the brand comes from

Setting Default What it does
Brand comes from Detect (Brands taxonomy, then a "Brand" attribute) Uses a brands taxonomy if your store has one, otherwise a product attribute named Brand. You can also pick a specific taxonomy or attribute.

Check a product's output with the schema validator, then test the live page in Google's Rich Results Test.

Titles and descriptions for products

Products have their own templates under RankKit SEO → Settings → Content types, like any content type. These extra variables are available:

Variable Value
%wc_price% The product price
%wc_sku% The SKU
%wc_brand% The brand
%wc_short_desc% The product short description

For example, a description template of %wc_short_desc% From %wc_price%. Free returns. gives every product a useful description without writing one by hand. You can still override it on each product in the General section of the RankKit SEO panel (the RankKit SEO button in the editor toolbar).

Shop and utility pages

  • Shop page: "The shop page uses the SEO title and description you set on the Shop page." Edit the page set as Shop in WooCommerce and fill in its RankKit SEO fields.
  • Cart, checkout and My account: "Cart, checkout and My account pages are noindexed and left out of the sitemap." These pages have no value in search results.

Product sitemap

"The product sitemap skips hidden products, and out-of-stock ones when the store hides them." Out-of-stock products stay in the sitemap unless you turned on WooCommerce's own setting to hide them from the catalog. See XML sitemaps.

Advanced WooCommerce SEO (Pro)

RankKit SEO Pro adds product identifiers, per-variation offers, Open Graph product tags and noindex for thin archives. Settings are on the same WooCommerce tab.

Product identifiers. "GTIN, MPN, ISBN and brand fields are on each product (Inventory tab) and variation." Fill in GTIN (UPC / EAN), MPN, ISBN and Brand to give Google exact product matches. Each variation can have its own.

Setting Default What it does
One offer per variation On "Variable products get an AggregateOffer (lowest and highest price) listing every variation with its own price, stock, SKU and GTIN."
Open Graph product tags On "og:type product with price, currency, availability, condition, brand and SKU for Facebook, Pinterest and catalog tools."
Noindex filtered and sorted shop pages On "Layered-nav filters, price filters and ?orderby= create endless near-duplicate pages."
Noindex empty product categories and tags Off Keeps archive pages with no products out of the index.

FAQ

Do I need a separate WooCommerce SEO plugin?

No. Product schema, product variables, noindex on utility pages and clean product sitemaps are built in and free.

Why don't I see star ratings in Google?

Ratings are only in the schema when the product has reviews in WooCommerce. Even with valid schema, Google decides whether to show stars. Check the product with the Rich Results Test.

Can I still add my own Product schema?

You can, with a Product item in the Schema manager. On WooCommerce products it merges into the automatic Product node, so fields you fill in override the generated ones.
