Visits from AI assistants are useful to know about, but for a store the real question is: do they buy? AI referral revenue credits each WooCommerce order to the AI assistant that sent the shopper, so you can see how much revenue ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and others bring in.

Everything happens on your own site. Nothing is sent to RankKit SEO or to Google, and it works without GA4.

Turn it on

You need WooCommerce active.

  1. Go to RankKit SEO → AI Visibility and open the AI revenue tab.
  2. Turn on Track AI referrals on orders.

You can also switch it with the AI referral revenue toggle in the Modules card on the RankKit SEO Dashboard. It's off by default.

Tracking starts from the moment you turn it on. Earlier orders aren't credited.

How orders are credited

  1. A visitor arrives from an AI assistant. RankKit SEO recognizes the assistant from the referring site, or from a utm_source parameter in the link (for example utm_source=chatgpt.com, which ChatGPT adds to many links).
  2. RankKit SEO sets a first-party cookie, speedrank_ai_ref, that holds only the assistant's name and the source it came from. It lasts 30 days. It's set on the server, and also in the browser so it works on pages served from a page cache.
  3. When the visitor places an order within those 30 days, RankKit SEO stores the assistant on the order.

The first AI assistant wins: a later visit from another assistant doesn't overwrite the cookie. Each order shows the credit on the WooCommerce order screen as AI referral: followed by the assistant name and the source.

Recognized assistants include ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, You.com, Phind, DeepSeek, Meta AI, Grok and Le Chat (Mistral).

Read the report

The Revenue from AI assistants card on the AI revenue tab shows a period of 7 days, 28 days (default), 90 days or 12 months:

Number Meaning
Revenue Total of AI-credited paid orders, minus refunds, with the change versus the period before.
Orders Number of AI-credited paid orders, and how many in the previous period.
Average order Revenue divided by orders.

Below it:

  • By assistant: revenue per AI assistant. Hover a bar to see its orders and average order value.
  • Latest AI-referred orders: the 10 most recent credited orders with Order (linked to the order), Assistant, Total and When.

Only orders with a paid status in WooCommerce (such as processing or completed) are counted. The report is visible to administrators.

AI agents can read the same report with the ai_revenue_report MCP tool.

Privacy

The cookie contains only the assistant's name and where the visit came from (for example "ChatGPT|chatgpt.com"). It holds no personal data and nothing is sent to a third party. It's a first-party analytics cookie, so mention it in your cookie or privacy policy if your jurisdiction requires that.

FAQ

Why are there fewer AI orders here than AI visits in GA4?

Not every visitor buys, and some AI apps open links without passing a referrer or utm_source, so those visits can't be recognized. The report counts only orders it can credit with certainty.

Does the shopper have to buy on the first visit?

No. Any order placed within 30 days of the AI visit is credited, as long as the cookie is still in the browser.

Does it work with the WooCommerce block checkout?

Yes. Orders are tagged from both the classic checkout and the block (Store API) checkout.
