More people now ask an AI assistant instead of searching. AI visibility tracking asks an assistant the questions your customers ask, with live web search turned on, and records whether the answer names your brand, links to your site, and which competitors it recommends instead.

Checks run on your own AI key, on demand or every week. There are no RankKit SEO credits.

Which AI is asked

RankKit SEO asks the one AI provider you configured in RankKit SEO → Settings → AI provider, using that provider's web search:

Provider in Settings → AI provider How it searches the web
Anthropic Claude Claude's web search tool
OpenAI OpenAI's web search tool
Google Gemini Grounding with Google Search
OpenRouter OpenRouter's web search
WordPress AI (Settings → Connectors) Web search when your WordPress AI connector supports it
OpenAI-compatible (Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM, Azure) No web search: answers come from the model alone

So the results show how the assistant behind your configured provider and model answers. They don't measure ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity all at once. To check a different assistant, change the provider in Settings and run a check again; each answer records which provider and model produced it.

Answers also aren't identical to what a person sees in a consumer app such as the ChatGPT or Gemini app, which may use a different model, location and personalization. Treat the numbers as a consistent, repeatable sample to track over time.

Before you start

  • Add your AI provider key. Without one, the page shows Add an AI key to run checks.
  • You need to be an administrator to set up and run checks. Users with the Analytics permission can view the results.

Set up tracking

Go to RankKit SEO → AI Visibility and open the Setup tab. The What to track card has these fields:

Field What to enter
Brand name Your brand as people write it. Empty uses the name from Settings → Identity, or the site title. Your domain also counts as a mention.
Other names One per line: short names, product names, spellings in other scripts.
Competitors One per line, optionally Name | domain.com. Up to 15. With a domain, a citation of that domain also counts as the competitor being named.
Prompts (n of 25) Up to 25 questions, one per line, written the way a customer would ask. Don't include your brand name.
Check automatically every week Off by default. Runs all prompts once a week.

Click Save.

Suggest prompts asks your AI provider for 10 customer questions based on your site name, tagline and page titles (and your city, if Local SEO is on). Edit them before saving: the best prompts are the real questions that lead people to buy what you sell, for example "best mango achar brand in Bangladesh" rather than your product name.

Run a check

  1. Open the AI answers tab.
  2. Click Run check now. The button shows progress ("Asking 3 of 10…") as each prompt is sent.
  3. Keep the page open until it finishes. You then see Visibility check finished.

Weekly checks run in the background through WP-Cron, one prompt every 45 seconds, so you don't need to keep anything open.

What RankKit SEO records

For every prompt in a check, RankKit SEO stores:

  • the full answer text, the provider and model, and whether it was answered with web search or without web search
  • up to 20 sources the answer cited (URL and title)
  • Mentioned: whether the answer names your brand, one of your other names, or your domain, as a whole word
  • Cited: whether one of the cited sources is on your domain (or a subdomain)
  • Position: where your brand appears among the brands named, counting the competitors named before it (#1 means you were named first)
  • Competitors named: which of your competitors appear in the answer, by name or domain
  • any error, for example when the daily AI limit was reached. Answers with errors are left out of the percentages.

Read the results

The Brand visibility in AI answers card shows the latest check:

Number Meaning
Mentioned in Percentage of answers that name your brand.
Cited in Percentage of answers that link to your site.
Average position Your average position among the brands named, in answers where you're mentioned.
Your share of voice Your brand's mentions as a share of all brand mentions (yours plus competitors').

After two or more checks, a Mention rate chart shows the trend (up to the last 12 checks).

  • Share of voice compares how often each brand is named across the answers. Add competitors in Setup to see it.
  • Sources AI cites most lists the domains the assistant cited most often (your own site is highlighted). Getting listed or mentioned on those sites is one of the most direct ways to appear in more answers.
  • Answers lists every prompt with Mentioned, Cited, Position and Competitors named. Click Read answer to see the full answer and its sources.

To delete all stored answers, click Clear history in Setup.

Costs

Each prompt is one AI request, counted against your Daily request limit in Settings → AI provider. A weekly check of 10 prompts is about 10 requests a week. Providers usually bill web search on top of tokens, so check your provider's pricing. If the daily limit is reached during a check, the remaining prompts fail with an error and are not counted.

FAQ

Why isn't my brand mentioned even though I rank in Google?

AI assistants choose sources differently from Google's ranking. Look at Sources AI cites most for the sites the assistant trusts, then work through the AI search checklist.

Why do results change from one check to the next?

AI answers vary between runs, even for the same question. Track the trend across several weekly checks rather than a single result.

Does this tell me how much traffic AI sends me?

No. It measures whether you appear in answers. For visits from AI assistants, see Measure traffic from AI assistants. For WooCommerce revenue, see AI referral revenue.
