Check and import schema

Validate the final JSON-LD a page outputs, fix errors before Google sees them, and import schema from another page's URL or from pasted code.

RankKit SEO checks schema against the required and recommended properties from Google's rich result documentation. You can run that check on any page from the Schema page, or on the post you are editing. Items with errors are never output, so a broken item can't put invalid markup on your site.

You can also copy schema from another page instead of typing it: RankKit SEO reads its JSON-LD and remaps it to your page.

Validate any page

  1. Go to RankKit SEO → Schema.
  2. In the Schema validator card, type part of a title in Find a post or page and click Search.
  3. Click Validate next to the page.

You get the final JSON-LD graph that page outputs: the automatic schema, the page's own items from the Schema manager and any matching schema templates, each checked for required and recommended properties.

Validate while you edit

In the block editor, click the RankKit SEO button in the editor toolbar and choose Schema (Add and edit schema on a page). In the Schema Actions card:

  1. Save the post at least once. Until then the card says "Save the post to put its schema on the page and check it."
  2. Click Validate Current. This checks your unsaved items too.
  3. Read the result: the number of errors and warnings, or, for a published post, "Schema markup is deployed and active on this post" with the number of nodes. A draft without errors shows "Schema markup is valid and goes live when the post is published."
  4. Click Show final JSON-LD to see the exact output, including Other nodes on the page.
  5. After publishing, open the Google Rich Results Test link to test the live page with Google's own tool.

Regenerate Schema in the same card fills the empty fields of your items from their defaults, then validates.

In the Classic Editor, use Validate schema in the RankKit SEO Schema box. The summary shows "Valid" with a count of recommendations, or the number of errors and warnings.

Errors and warnings

Result What it means What happens
Error A required property is missing, such as the headline of an article or the start date of an event. The item is not output until you fix it.
Warning (recommendation) A recommended property is empty, such as an article image. The item is output. Filling it in improves your chance of a rich result.

Import schema from a URL

Useful when a competitor's or a schema generator's page already has the markup you want.

  1. In the block editor's Schema section, use the Import Schema card with Import from set to URL / Online page. In the Classic Editor, open Import schema from a URL in the Schema manager.
  2. Paste the full address of a public page and click Fetch schema. RankKit SEO fetches that page once, from your server, to read its JSON-LD.
  3. Pick a node from the list. Its title, URL, image, dates and author are remapped to this page with variables.
  4. Edit the rest after adding it, then validate (Validate Current in the block editor, Validate schema in the Classic Editor).

References to other nodes on the source site are dropped, so the imported item doesn't point at someone else's organization or website.

RankKit SEO Pro RankKit SEO Pro adds Import from JSON-LD code or a .json file: paste schema from any generator (or HTML with JSON-LD script tags) and click Read code, or click Upload .json. Start a 14-day free trial.

Troubleshooting

Problem Cause Fix
"No JSON-LD structured data was found on that page." The page has no JSON-LD, or it adds it with JavaScript after load. Try another page, or copy the code and use the Pro code import.
"The page answered with HTTP …" The page blocks requests from servers, or the URL is wrong. Check the URL in a browser. Some sites block requests that don't come from a browser.
An item shows Skipped The page already outputs FAQ or How-to schema from a block. Keep one source: the block or the item.
Google's test shows different schema Your page cache still serves an older version. Clear the page cache and test again.

FAQ

Does the validator replace Google's Rich Results Test?

No. It checks the properties Google documents as required and recommended, before you publish. Google's test also checks the live page and tells you which rich results it is eligible for, so use both.

Does importing from a URL keep a connection to that page?

No. RankKit SEO fetches the page once when you click Fetch schema and stores a copy in your post. Nothing is fetched again.
