Competitor analysis

Competitor analysis puts your page next to a page that ranks above you for the same search. RankKit SEO fetches both pages once, compares their on-page SEO side by side and lists where the competitor is ahead. If you have an AI provider set up, it can also suggest the topics and questions your page is missing.

It is a quick way to answer "why do they rank and we don't?" without copying their page into a spreadsheet.

Compare a page

1. Search Google for your keyword and copy the address of the result that ranks above you.
2. Go to RankKit SEO → Site Audit → Competitor analysis.
3. Paste it in Competitor URL. Use the full address, starting with http:// or https://.
4. In Your page, enter a URL or a path on your site, for example /mango-pickle-recipe/. Leave it empty to compare your home page.
5. Optionally, enter a Target keyword (optional) to check keyword use on both pages.
6. Optionally, turn on Ask AI for content gaps.
7. Click Compare.

RankKit SEO only fetches the two pages when you click Compare. Nothing runs in the background.

Read the results

Section	What it shows
Where the competitor is ahead	A plain list of gaps, for example a longer page, more H2 sections, schema types you do not use, a missing meta description or H1 on your page, more internal links, or the keyword in their title, H1 or description but not yours.
Sections they have that yours does not seem to cover	Their headings with no close match on your page.
AI gap analysis	Only when you asked for it: Topics and questions to add, Improvements for your page and a Title idea:.
Side by side	Title, meta description, H1, H2 / H3 headings, words, schema types, internal and external links, images without alt text, canonical and Open Graph tags. With a keyword: keyword in title / H1 / description, keyword in URL and keyword uses (density).
Your headings / Competitor headings	The heading outline of both pages.

Your last 10 comparisons are listed under Recent comparisons. Click Compare again to refresh one with the pages as they are now.

About the AI gap analysis

Ask AI for content gaps sends both pages' headings and an excerpt to your AI provider and returns missing topics and concrete improvements. It uses one AI request, which counts towards your daily limit. The toggle needs an AI provider: set one up in Settings → AI provider (see Add your AI provider key).

Use the suggestions as a checklist, then write the content in your own words. If you want a full outline, the AI writer can turn a keyword into a brief.

Tip Compare against two or three pages that rank on page one, not just one. Topics that all of them cover are the ones searchers expect.

FAQ

Is this free?

Yes. Competitor analysis is part of the free plugin. The AI gap analysis uses your own AI provider key.

Does the competitor see that I compared their page?

RankKit SEO requests their page once from your server, like any visitor or bot would. It does not log in or send anything else.

Why does the comparison fail for some sites?

Some sites block automated requests or return an error, in which case RankKit SEO shows "Could not fetch" or the HTTP status it got. Try another competitor page, or try again later.

Can an AI agent run comparisons?

Yes. Connected agents can use the competitor_compare tool. See Connect an AI agent.
