RankKit SEO gets regular updates with new features and fixes. Updating keeps all your settings and SEO data: RankKit SEO upgrades its own database tables automatically the first time the new version loads.

What changed in each version is on the changelog.

Update RankKit SEO Pro

With an active license, RankKit SEO Pro updates arrive inside WordPress like any other plugin update.

  1. Go to Plugins (or Dashboard → Updates).
  2. When an update is available, click update now under RankKit SEO Pro, or tick it and choose Update from the bulk actions.

You can also turn on WordPress auto-updates for RankKit SEO Pro in the Plugins list.

Yearly plans include updates for one year, and lifetime plans for as long as RankKit SEO Pro is developed. If your license has ended, you stop receiving Pro updates. See Manage your license.

Update the free plugin

  1. Download the latest version from rankkitseo.site/download/free.
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin, choose the zip file and click Install Now.
  3. WordPress sees that RankKit SEO is already installed and compares the versions. Click Replace current with uploaded.

Your settings and data are kept.

Before you update

Updates are designed to keep your data, but a backup gives you a way back if anything goes wrong on your site:

  1. Go to RankKit SEO → Tools → Backups.
  2. Optionally type a Label, such as "Before 1.2 update".
  3. Click Back up now.

A RankKit SEO backup covers its settings, SEO fields, alt text and redirects. It doesn't cover the rest of your site, so keep your usual full-site backups too. See Backups, export and import.

Check which version you have

  • The RankKit SEO header shows the version next to the name, for example v1.1.1.
  • The Plugins list shows it under the plugin name.
  • In your site's page source, RankKit SEO's tags are wrapped in a comment such as <!-- RankKit SEO 1.1.1 -->.

FAQ

Will updating change my titles or settings?

No. Updates keep your settings and SEO data. Database changes needed by a new version run automatically.

Do I need to deactivate RankKit SEO before updating?

No. Update it like any other plugin.

I updated and a page looks wrong. What should I do?

Clear your page cache and CDN cache first, since they can serve old output. If the problem stays, see Common problems and fixes or get support.
